In fact, this was a rare case in which \u2014 in the words of health investigative reporter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/serenatinari\">Serena Tinari<\/a> \u2014 a corporate media release represented \u201cthe biggest news of the week, worldwide.\u201d November saw a flurry of similar announcements related to COVID-19 vaccines. There was a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pfizer.com\/news\/press-release\/press-release-detail\/pfizer-and-biontech-announce-vaccine-candidate-against\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">separate release<\/a> published November 9 from the same US-German corporate collaboration, <a href=\"https:\/\/investors.modernatx.com\/news-releases\/news-release-details\/modernas-covid-19-vaccine-candidate-meets-its-primary-efficacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">another on November 16 with similarly promising claims by biotech startup Moderna<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.astrazeneca.com\/content\/astraz\/media-centre\/press-releases\/2020\/azd1222hlr.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">one on November 23 by AstraZeneca<\/a>, as <a href=\"https:\/\/ourworldindata.org\/covid-deaths\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">global deaths<\/a> in the pandemic reached about 1.4 million. What should reporters look for in such releases?
